going back to Portugal: through an online form if you live abroad, or through someone in Portugal acting for you, like our partner lawyer.

The certificate costs €5. It comes in Portuguese and English, with a code anyone can use to check it online.

The purpose you pick is printed on it and can’t be changed, so choose it before you pay.

The apostille comes from Portugal’s Prosecutor General’s Office, for €10.20. Countries outside the apostille convention, such as the UAE and Qatar, want embassy legalisation instead.

The country you’re moving to decides how old the certificate can be.
