Power of attorney · €79 · grant or revoke

A Portuguese power of attorney, notarised online.

A procuração lets someone you trust handle a personal matter in Portugal for you: collecting a certificate, cancelling a contract, handling paperwork at a government counter. A licensed Portuguese lawyer notarises it remotely, and drafts it for you if it doesn't exist yet. Revoking one you signed before works the same way.

Is this you?

What people use it for

Anything personal that needs a trusted pair of hands in Portugal while you're somewhere else.

✓

Everyday admin in Portugal

Utilities, personal paperwork, collecting documents, dealing with offices that want a person in the room.

✓

A specific, limited errand

The safest PoA is a narrow one. Name the person, name the task, and the authority ends there.

✓

Revoking a PoA you gave before

Circumstances change. We draft and notarise the revocation so the old authority formally ends.

✓

You don't have a document yet

Add drafting for €79 and a Portuguese lawyer writes a standard personal PoA around your instructions.

Read this before ordering

Personal matters only.

This service covers personal, non-commercial powers of attorney. We can't notarise or draft a PoA for buying or selling property, buying or selling a vehicle, or any commercial deal.

Your three options

The usual routes, compared

Portuguese consulate

Valid, but appointment slots are scarce in most countries and you travel to the consulate, sometimes twice.

Local notary + apostille

A notary in your country, then an apostille, then often a certified Portuguese translation. Three fees, three waits, and easy to get wrong.

This route

A licensed Portuguese lawyer drafts (if needed) and notarises your PoA remotely. One flow, flat pricing, done in 2–5 business days.

How it works

Drafted if you need it, notarised either way.

You fill in the details, verify your identity online, sign at home, and a licensed Portuguese lawyer notarises it. If the document doesn't exist yet, the same lawyer writes it first.

1

Order, and tell us the details

Notarise a PoA you already have. Need it written, or revoking an old one? Add drafting at check-out and give us your instructions.

2

Prove it's you

Straight after the form, a quick online ID check with your passport and your phone camera.

3

Sign it

If we drafted it, the finished PoA lands on your order thread first. Read it, then print and sign.

4

The lawyer notarises it

A licensed Portuguese lawyer certifies your signature on the PoA. Two to three business days to notarise; with drafting, around five in total. The certified PDF arrives by email, and we can post the paper version from €30.

Living between two countries? Tell us which address should appear on the document. On a deed it matters, so we'll always check with you.

Changed your mind?

Cancelling a power of attorney you gave someone

A PoA doesn't expire just because you stopped trusting the arrangement. Until it's formally revoked, the person you named can keep acting under it.

The fix is a revocation: a document stating the old authority has ended, notarised so it holds. Choose the power of attorney option at checkout, tell us it's a revocation, and give us the details of the original. We draft it, the lawyer notarises it, and you get the certified PDF. Then send it to the person you named and to anyone who was relying on the old document.

Using it abroad

Can a Portuguese lawyer's PoA be used in another country?

Yes, for personal matters in Hague Convention countries. Two things need to be in place, and one honest limit is worth knowing before you order.

1. An apostille on top · €99

Portuguese force stops at the border

Under Article 38 the lawyer's notarisation has full legal force inside Portugal, but that's Portuguese law. For another country to treat the document as authentic, it needs a Portuguese apostille added. The chain for a Hague country is simple: draft and notarise (€79), then apostille (€99).

2. Usually a translation

In the receiving country's language

Most authorities abroad want the PoA in their own language, or with a certified translation attached. We flag when that's likely, but translation is a separate step we don't currently provide.

The honest caveat: an apostille authenticates the document, it doesn't force the destination country to accept that form of PoA for a given act. Everyday personal matters, like representing you at an office, collecting documents or handling admin, generally work.

Some acts need more than this service provides. Property, vehicle and commercial matters are outside it everywhere, not just in Portugal: Germany, for example, requires a full notarial deed for a property transaction, which a lawyer-certification plus apostille won't replace. Non-Hague destinations need consular legalisation instead. So for a personal matter abroad, ask the receiving party exactly what form they need before you order. No provider can promise a foreign authority's decision.

FAQ

Power of attorney questions

A power of attorney under Portuguese law: a document in which you authorise a named person to act for you in defined matters. Granting one is a formal act, which is why it needs notarising.
Your instructions or the existing document, the passport or ID you’ll use for the online identity check, and the details of the person you’re naming.
Yes. Add drafting for €79 and a Portuguese lawyer writes a standard personal PoA from your instructions. Drafting takes the total turnaround to about 5 business days.
Yes. Choose the PoA option, tell us it’s a revocation, and give us the details of the original document and who held the authority. We handle the drafting and notarisation.
Until it’s revoked, or until any end date written into it. A narrow PoA for one errand effectively expires with the errand. If you want a hard end date, tell us and it goes in the draft.
No. Property, vehicle and commercial matters are outside this service.
Usually not. A narrow PoA that names the person and the specific task is safer, and you can always grant another one later. And any PoA can be revoked.
You’ll give us their identifying details for the document, but the granting is your act. Once they have the notarised PoA, they present it wherever they act for you.
Notarising a PoA you already have takes 2–3 business days. If we draft it, up to 5. An apostille adds about a week. The clock starts once your identity check clears and your instructions are complete.
A lawyer-notarised PoA carries the same evidential force as a notarial act under Article 38 of Decree-Law 76-A/2006, and it’s accepted for the great majority of everyday personal matters. No provider can guarantee a specific authority’s decision, so if your use case is unusual, ask us before ordering.
