The smoothest approach is to start with your NIF (Portuguese tax number). It’s almost always needed before beginning a visa process, since consulates often request it and it’s required for essentials like opening a bank account or signing a lease.

Next, if you’re applying for a D7 visa, opening a Portuguese bank account is usually expected before you apply, because you’ll be asked to show proof of funds in Portugal. For the D8 visa (Digital Nomad Visa), a bank account may not always be mandatory upfront, but it’s strongly recommended — it can strengthen your application and is very practical once you arrive.

After these essentials are in place, most clients continue with a visa support package for dossier review, consultations, and step-by-step guidance.

That said, the order is flexible: you can begin with a NIF and bank account and add a visa package later, or start with a visa package and add these services when you’re ready.
