How can Self-employed or Sole Proprietors provide a proof of employment?

If you’re a sole proprietor or self-employed, banks will require verification to confirm the existence and ownership of your business or services. Acceptable proof would include any of the following documents, issued within the last 6 months:

  • A letter from a client or business partner stating that you’re are the owner of your company*

Requirements of a letter from a client or business partner:

  • It must be recent and signed, issued within the last six months.
  • It must reflect your full name exactly as displayed on your passport.
  • If applicable, it should state your business name (freelancers are exempt).
  • It must indicate the amount of income received.
  • It must be written on the official company letterhead of your client or business partner
  • It should include the initiation date of your professional relationship or partnership.
